Dear Runner,
In an effort to boost participation in the half marathon event, we are offering prize money donated by our outstanding sponsors at Ace Hardware Azle.
In addition to the prize money enticement, allow me to share a few thoughts on other reasons you should consider the Azle Lake Run as your race event.
I tell everyone considering our race about the hills that will be challenging you. The object is not to discourage you, but rather the opposite. I want to encourage you to train. I have ran half marathons that offered flat courses and those which offered hills. None were as scenic as the rural nature of the Azle Lake Run course or offered as many wildlife spotting opportunities as ours.
In case you’re concerned about the physical ramifications of running a hillier course, allow me to assure you that we keep a medical doctor and physical therapists on site, as well the comforting presence of hot pancakes and syrup (medically known to induce immediate recovery). I get consistently positive feedback on the quality of our race support staff. Quality people = Quality event. Our course monitors are carefully screened for sanity. We try to use exclusively insane people because it’s a longer race. Sane people are boring.
Finally, I’d like to consider the quality of the causes you are supporting with your entry fee. The Community Caring Center feeds and clothes thousands of people each year. The Pregnancy Center offers assistance to all who need them, and the Earl Roland Scholarship fund has made the difference in many college students’ educations. I have intimate knowledge of what happens with the money we raise and give personal assurance that you are supporting honest, quality, caring agencies.
And one last benefit I must mention… The extra training that you do for the Lake Run will propel you into the biggest PR of your racing career in whatever wimpy, flat course event you choose to do afterward.
See you on race day!

73 year old man shockingly defeats ALR race director at the Run The Rails 5k in Saginaw. "He repeatedly refused cash offers to finish behind me!" bemoaned Jack. If you're looking for a friendly, fun 5k race in early June, then look no further than the
Run The Rails 5k. There WILL be a rematch in 2016.
*Update....Jack did go back for the rematch this year, only to learn that his opponent didn't bother to show up because it wasn't worth his time to try to beat such a slow poke. As a result, Jack ran mostly unopposed and set a new personal worst, scoring himself a last place medal in the process. Congratulations, Jack!
